According to EPICURUS philosophy should teach people how to be happy and attain aponia (a state of no pain and no fear). He proposed that the best way to achieve hapiness and tranquility was to reduce individual desires, the less a person wants, the happier she or he will be; therefore he advised people not to fall in love. He wrote more than 300 works, of which only a few fragments survive. The school of philosophy based on his work is called Epicureanism.
